Plagiarism Policy

Global Perspectives in Education and Learning (GPEL) upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical scholarship. The journal maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism in all its forms, recognizing that originality is fundamental to credible and impactful research.

Plagiarism, whether intentional or unintentional, includes but is not limited to the copying of text, ideas, data, or results without proper attribution. Any form of academic misconduct compromises the integrity of the publication process and will be addressed with strict action.

Similarity Thresholds

All submitted manuscripts are screened using advanced plagiarism detection tools (e.g., Turnitin) prior to the peer review process.

  • GPEL Standard: Maximum 10% similarity index
  • This threshold is intentionally stricter than commonly accepted benchmarks to ensure a high level of originality and scholarly contribution

Manuscripts exceeding the acceptable limit may be:

  • Rejected prior to review
  • Returned to authors for revision (in minor cases)
  • Rejected outright in cases of significant overlap or unethical copying

Forms of Plagiarism Covered

GPEL strictly monitors and takes action against:

  • Direct plagiarism (verbatim copying without citation)
  • Self-plagiarism (reuse of previously published work without disclosure)
  • Mosaic plagiarism (patchwriting or improper paraphrasing)
  • Data and figure plagiarism
  • Improper citation or omission of sources

AI-Generated Content Policy

GPEL maintains a strict policy regarding the use of artificial intelligence in manuscript preparation.

  • Submissions must represent original human-authored work
  • The use of AI tools (such as text generators) to produce substantial portions of the manuscript is strictly prohibited
  • Any manuscript found to contain AI-generated content without proper disclosure and justification will be immediately rejected

If AI assistance is used in a limited and ethical manner (e.g., grammar improvement), it must not compromise the originality, authenticity, or intellectual contribution of the work.

Actions in Case of Violation

If plagiarism or unethical practices are identified at any stage:

  • Before publication: Immediate rejection of the manuscript
  • After publication: Retraction of the article and public notice
  • Additional actions:
    • Ban on future submissions
    • Notification to affiliated institutions (in severe cases)

Author Responsibility

Authors are solely responsible for ensuring:

  • The originality of their work
  • Proper citation and referencing
  • Compliance with ethical publishing standards

By submitting to GPEL, authors confirm that their manuscript is free from plagiarism and adheres to all academic integrity requirements.
